Story
My name is Craig Purves and following the death of my mum to cancer I became involved with the local cancer charity, F.A.C.E (www.facescotland.org.uk). For the past few years I have organised the F.A.C.E charity golf day.
In May 2011 my son was born 9 weeks early and spent 4 weeks in the neonatal unit of the Simpson maternity hospital. He is now 17 months old and causing havoc. I have no doubt that this is due to the care and attention from all the members of staff at the Neonatal Unit. That and the fact he has a good family around him.
On the 30th of September 2013 I will be 30 and to celebrate this I am planning to undertake the following challenge to raise funds for F.A.C.E. ( charity number: SCO0732 ) and the Simpsons Special Care Babies ( charity number: SC002013 ).
The challenge
From 30th September 2012 until 30th September 2013 I intended to play every par 3 hole on all the golf courses in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The main aspect of the challenge is that I plan to be under par by the end of the challenge. I am currently playing off a handicap of 16 and will be using my shots. For example if a hole has a stroke index up to 16 and I shoot a 4 then the shot off would make it a par.
The fundraising
I am setting up a Just Giving page for F.A.C.E and a Work With Us page for the SSCB. Everybody who donates will be added to a raffle that I plan on holding on my 30th birthday. I intend to contact all the courses and for any course who allows me to play the holes for free I will pay £1 per par 3 into a "Bonus Fund". This fund is going to be added to the total at the end and split between the two charities. If I do not complete the challenge under par I will double the Bonus Fund.
This is not going to be an easy challenge but both these charities are close to my heart so I will be giving it my best shot.
