Every half an hour in the UK, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. The Child Brain Injury Trust provides information, support and training to anyone affected by this devastating and life changing condition. Visit our website www.childbraininjurytrust.org.uk to find out more...

Story

I am fundraising to celebrate both my daughter and the Child Brain Injury Trust's 21st Birthday.

The Trust helps thousands of children and young people with acquired brain injury by providing specialist support and information for those affected by this often misunderstood and hidden condition.

When my daughter Sophie was 11, she acquired a brain injury following a car accident and subsequent hospital negligence, nine years ago. This led to a cardiac arrest which starved her brain of oxygen and resulted in brain injury.

Sophie made a better-than-expected recovery but still suffers range of difficulties that are not immediately obvious when you meet her. Most people’s first impression of Sophie is that she is articulate, polite and healthy. Yet she battles extreme fatigue and needs to have sleeps during the day, and has poor memory, which means she can forget to eat and drink; She also has trouble with self organisation and suffers from epilepsy. The hidden nature of these conditions means that people disregard her difficulties, assuming she can function just like any other 21-year-old and this causes great frustration.

For the past nine years we have received invaluable support from The Child Brain Injury Trust. For this reason, I want to give something back to the Trust, for all its support in helping Sophie and their whole family.

In 2012 I will be fundraising for the charity. As an image consultant I have been offering 'Mini-Colour Analysis' sessions in exchange for a donation to the charity.

Help me support this unique cause and please give a donation.
