We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the half marathon, Run to the Beat, on 8 September 2013 in London with my sisters Clare and Katherine.

The words “you have a brain tumour” are something you hope never to hear but on 6 January 2012 I heard that exact sentence and was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumour.  Petrified, numb and in shock I underwent surgery on 18 February 2012 to remove it.  My meningioma was benign and I didn’t require any further treatment but will require annual MRI scans and checks for 5 years.  I count myself as extremely lucky having survived and have huge respect for the medical team who got me back to good health.

We want to raise money for vital research to be done on brain tumours which is why we are running for the charity Brain Tumour Research.  In the UK more children and people under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer yet it receives less than 1% of national cancer research spending.

All donations are very much appreciated.   Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.  Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.  Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.  So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
