I’m Getting on My Bike!!
No, I’m not leaving Almond for pastures new, but I am literally going to be the ‘spokesman’ for Almond Housing Association who are backing me with some hard cash to sponsor a 7 day cycle ride starting on Saturday 16th May. This challenge will involve sitting on a saddle for almost 6o hours, which is about 25 hours more than I normally sit around the office so it is no mean feat. The total distance that I will be pedalling is around 1150 kilometres, or 715 miles depending upon your age.
My route starts in Cork in Southern Ireland and finishes 7 days later in the ferry port of Larne in Northern Ireland. I shall be following the costal route; through Limerick, Doolin, Galway, Clifden, Ballina and Sligo in Southern Ireland prior to cycling across the border into the north of the country. In the North I will cycle through Enniskillen before heading up to the most northern part of Northern Ireland, Malin Head. From there the final leg of the journey will pass through Derry, Coleraine and Cushendun before finishing up in Larne. Hopefully my legs will still be able to complete that final leg.
This is not simply an excuse to pose about in tight shorts and lycra for a week, I also hope to raise some funding for the Open Door Accommodation Project (http://www.odap.org.uk) This locally based West Lothian charity has been working with homeless and vulnerable young people in the area for over 26 years. The essential service gives breathing space and advice to homeless young people whilst they seek alternative long term accommodation.
I have set up this Just Giving page and would be grateful if you could assist this great charity to keep helping and keep giving hope to those young people who need it most. My trip is entirely self-funded and all sponsorship money and any donations received will go directly to the Open Door Accommodation Project. Please consider making a donation or I will send you a picture of myself in full cycling gear.
Thank You
