Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I can't claim that riding 100 miles in the RideLondon100 is in anyway a hardship; I am delighted to be able to take part and raise money for such a great charity in the process.
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in March 2011 at the age of 32. As a young father of two small girls (one aged two and the youngest aged 4 months at the time) this news seemed impossible to bear. Shortly after my diagnosis, I underwent the surgery to remove the tumour which was followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, after the chemo it was found that the cancer had spread to both of my lungs. This was a huge shock and knocked me for six as up to this point I thought it had been caught early and my chances of beating it were really high, this news changed everything completely. Incredibly, two weeks later a cardiothoracic surgeon took a look at my scans and said she could operate to attempt to remove all the tumours. This didn't promise a cure but it will definitely buy me more quality time.
I had two thoracotomies at the beginning of 2012, have gone from strength to strength since and have to date had four clear scans. This has been the most unbelievable journey for me going from a time when there was little or no hope for a cure to now probably being the fittest and healthiest I have ever been. I'm certainly not in the clear yet but I'm a lot closer to it than I was three years ago and want to ensure I make the best use of my current good health to give something back to the charities helping people with cancer.
Beating Bowel Cancer were an important resource for me when I got my diagnosis and they do a lot of work to spread awareness of the disease which will help to prevent some people going through what I have.
Any donations will be very much appreciated!
