Story
We are running the Bullock Smithy Ultra this September in support of the Association of Air Ambulances Charity. This is a 56 mile run (!) in the peak district that involves self navigation through a series of checkpoints. There is a 24 hour time limit but it starts at 12 noon so we are going to try and finish in 12 hours to finish on the same day we started! We both ran a 40 mile ultra marathon last year so this seemed a logical (or crazy) step up.
Why choose air ambulances? Well, on March 12th this year Chris’ brother, Richard, got knocked off his bicycle whilst out on a group ride. Richard was seriously injured and without the help of his local air ambulance, a nurse who was cycling with Richard and two passing Anaethetists from the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham he would no longer be alive. Luckily, after two months in hospital, Richard has made a good, but unfortunately not full, recovery but and is back home being a Husband and a Dad again.
We realised that this could be anyone of us and, in this situation, the air ambulance was essential to save a life and for some unknown reason they're all charities (!!) so it's a bit of a no brainer really.
