Story
In September I will be lucky enough to trek through Jordan with other members of A&O to raise money for A&O's charity partner WarChild.
I pledged to raise £2000 (approx. AUD3400) and to make this interesting and hopefully raise more money, I have decided to embark on a week of eating only what a Syrian refugee in a Jordanian refugee camp would eat (I’ve obtained the food list from a charity that organised a ration challenge) . This is an extremely small amount of food, and this is coming from someone who never turns down a cupcake, or any food for that matter. For 7 days I will only be allowed to eat:
Rice - 1900g
Lentils - 170g
Dried Chick peas - 85g
Tinned sardines - 125g
Tinned kidney beans - 400g
Vegetable oil - 300mL
Flour - 400g
No coffee, no alcohol, no flavour, nothing else….so there is a good chance that if you see me around during that week, I will be hangry (hungry angry, for those not in the know). BUT the way you can help, is by donating. Whether big or small the donations are all appreciated, and as you all know, go to an excellent cause (War Child - who raise money for children in war zones). The week I plan to embark on this challenge is 14th-20th August 2017. I'll post updates throughout the week, to record how I am going.
It also should be noted, that despite sticking to this small amount of food, I will still have as much clean drinking water as I like and all the other stuff I would normally have living in Sydney, which is far more than any refugee living in a Jordanian refugee camp has. So whilst it will be tough, it will not be remotely comparable to what refugees have to go through every single day, usually for many years. So please dig deep and donate!
