Lands End to John O'Groats · 5 September 2014

We offer practical and financial support to the electrical and energy industries

Story

A group of four employees at power management company Eaton are helping to raise money for charity by cycling from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. They plan to cycle for nine days to complete the 986 miles from the tip of Cornwall to reach John O’Groats in Scotland at the other end of the UK. The ride will take place during 5th – 13th September and aims to help raise money for the former Electrical and Electronics Industries Benevolent Association (EEIBA) which is now known as the Electrical Industries Charity.

The Eaton team will cycle an average of 110 miles a day, across some of the most picturesque British scenery and climb roughly 15,000m. The team will cycle across many routes typical of UK End-to-End cycle rides.

“The group of us liked the idea of challenging ourselves to cycle the length of the UK, so we decided to take it on and to use the event to enable us to raise money for a charity of our choice. As members of the electrical industry we admire the work of the Electrical Industries Charity and so wanted to raise money for them” said Paul Ryan, Segment Sales Manager, one of the Eaton employees taking part in this challenge. “The idea originally came from Chris Pack who enjoys cycling, amongst a number of other activities including running and sailing and he persuaded the group of us to take on the challenge. Completing the group is Richard Molloy and Alan Birks. Richard is the most experienced cyclist and he has been responsible for setting our routes and providing advice on training and hydration. For Alan it is an opportunity to undertake one more challenge before stepping aside from the Eaton Management Team having helped with the sales integration of former Cooper Lighting & Safety’’.

The charity offers support to people within the electrical and energy industries facing challenges, either personal or professional.  The charity offers a confidential helpline that provides free debt advice and counselling, respite breaks for carers and financial support to those in need.
