In memory of Craig Gowans
We bring more than medicine to seriously ill children in hospital.

Story

Craig Gowans was a wonderful person! With looks to kill, an unconditional offer to study architecture at University and a professional football contract, Craig was living every young man’s dream. However his real talent was his infectious personality and tremendous sense of humor, which touched the lives of so many people. He died tragically in a training ground incident on the 8th of July 2005 aged 17, two weeks into his professional contract with Falkirk Football Club. Craig lived life to the full, achieving so much in such a short space of time and will always remain an inspiration to me.

The Craig Gowans Memorial Fund was established in 2007 with the aim of ensuring that Craig's memory is used as a driving force for good. July 2015 represents the tenth anniversary of Craig's passing, and to recognise this Craig's friends and family wanted to create a special event that would also take our fundraising to the next level. In July we aim to break the Guinness World Record for the longest 11-a-side football match. The current record (as of October 2014) stands at 72 hours: we are hoping to smash this!

The money raised will help fund enhancements to the new Sick Kids hospital at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France. We’re aiming to raise funds for a state of the art Snoezelen room in Craig’s name. This is a calming room with multi-sensory equipment to provide a relaxing and stimulating space, important for children with sensory impairments.
