When Grandad died last year it was extremely sad, but easier to bear because we knew how ill he was, and because he received such good care at the end of his life. Although he did not die in a hospice, Nanny did (RIP Alice Doyle) as did some of my Mum's close friends.

Six miles might not be a lot to the Paula Radcliffes of this world, but it's a fair old distance for a salad-dodger like me; especially for one as prone to blisters as I am.

Mum and my combined ages are well into triple figures now, so please take pity on two rotund ladies, up way past their bedtimes, doing something quite so unnatural to them. It might even rain (argh!) or be really hot (double argh!)
