The challenge
I was recently approached by a friend Rachael, to join her and to take on one of the biggest challenges of my life. I will be joining a team of 5 inspirational ladies, Racheal included, on a 321 mile journey in the summer, over 4 days(20th July - 24th July) from London to Paris. Having taken on challenges in my life in previous years, in business, travel and academically it was about time I accepted a physical challenge. Over the last year I have increased my exercise and fitness, been eating healthy and have managed to drop 4 and a half stone, even with two operations to both legs. So this was an opportunity I couldn't turn down, as much as it scared me.
None of the team are pro cyclist and some of us didn't even own bikes (me included). I was guided by the girls to Giant in Swansea where I was kitted out, now all I needed to do was to learn how to ride it. I was late signing up to the challenge and so the rest of the team have a few weeks training on me, so I have some catching up to do, but they have all been fantastic in encouraging me and teaching me all they know, they took me to Cycle specific cross hands for some technique training and are a very supportive group when out on the roads. These ladies are all such a fantastic group of ladies which I am very proud to be a part of.
The reason for the ride.
Hayley Davies is President of the Swansea Bay Business club for the next two years and has been set the target of raising £20,000 through various challenges.
The funds raised by the group will be contributing to this target and will all be donated to Ty Hafan.
About the charity.
Tŷ Hafan is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities and offers care to children and support for their families, throughout Wales. I am very lucky to have a happy and healthy 18month old nephew, who all of you that know me know how emotional I get over him, and how much he is a huge part of my life and my families life. Some families are not as fortunate, and Ty Hafan do an amazing job in offering comfort, care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families in the hospice, in the community and in their home so they can make the most of the time they have left together.
So please dig deep, not only to support me in this challenge that I'm facing but also my fellow team mates and to help support the wonderful, dedicated people in Ty Hafan changing lives every day.
Thank you.
Charlotte, Xx
