Story
In early 2018 I was diagnosed with a condition called Fibromyalgia. While explaining a lot about the symptoms I was experiencing, it was also overwhelming.
I attended 2019's Allstars tournament with my camera and I loved the atmosphere of the weekend and wanted to get involved more, so I made the decision to apply to take part.
Fibromyalgia is a recognised chronic condition of widespread pain and fatigue. The pain tends to be felt as head to toe aching or burning. It may be worse at some times than at others and may also change location, usually becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used most. There are also a host of other symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia.
As you can imagine, this can make things difficult when you're training for an Ice Hockey tournament! While training, I also have to take into account the increased pain and fatigue I'm going to be feeling the next day or so. Playing in Allstars 2021 is not just the opportunity to raise money for a charity doing important awareness work, but personally it will be a victory over my own condition.
Fibromyalgia Action UK was established in order to provide much needed information and support to sufferers and their families. In addition, FMAUK provides medical information for professionals and operates a national helpline.
Join me on this journey of attempting to become enough of a hockey player to play this tournament as a member of Team Barbarians (www.justgiving.com/teams/icebarbarians) and the fundraising I'll have leading up.
