Story

Hi Lovelies and thank you for visiting my page!

What insanity is this? Partly a gin fuelled decision (of course!) to see if this crazy group of ex-skaters and Co. could actually pull off a feat so challenging that we’d never entertained it before. Team Honey Badger is made up of broken ankles, shoulders, backs, a healthy fear of sea monsters and one who only learnt to swim 12 months ago – pretty awesome right? So if this rag-tag group can overcome a challenge of this magnitude, there isn’t anything we can’t do going forward.

Yes, yes, that’s all very well and good, by WHY would we put ourselves through training for months in the freezing cold - 3.5 degrees in February, closer to 15 when our tide arrives, why would you even think of swimming through the world’s busiest shipping lanes in some notoriously dangerous waters? WHY???

Well, we’re all swimming for different and incredibly deserving charities. Personally, I’ve chosen to raise money for Blind Dog Rescue UK. Check them out here:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blind-Dog-Rescue-UK/161489160581309?fref=ts or http://www.blinddogrescueuk.com/

Because of these awesome people, Lucy and I are the proud parents to Misho (blind), Johnny (reformed shut-down dog) and Athos (the loveable giant). When I think about the lives they had before coming here, the treatment they suffered at the hands of others, I am so grateful that a charity like this exists. They have been rescuing and rehoming blind and partially sighted dogs in the UK and Europe, and educating / supporting owners since 2010. In doing this, they have lent their support to struggling shelters in some of the most needed locations, in particular, ARSOFIA (http://arsofia.com//?s=misho&.x=0&.y=0  ), which is where Mish and Johny hail from.

We have fostered through them over 10 times and every experience makes me grateful for the work that they do. When it comes to blind and partially-sighted dogs, most probably wouldn’t spare a second though, but if you’ve ever spent any time with one of these special creatures, you’ll see that they are just like any other pooches….they love to run, play, roll about in the grass and eat their parent’s shoes! Often overlooked, they are more often than not abandoned and mistreated.

This is a very small but very worthy charity, run solely by volunteers. Please help me in supporting their continued efforts.
