We enable physically disabled people to to enjoy inclusion through technology

Story

Thanks for visiting our Cathar Way Challenge JustGiving page.

In September Robin Pemberton, Gavin Bowyer and Justin Bowyer will be running the entirety of the 250km Cathar Way through the Pyrenees from the ancient town of Foix to Port-La-Nouvelle on the Mediterranean coast in just five days.  Self-supported and carrying their provisions with them (including tents) they will follow the thousand-year-old trail through tough, often mountainous, terrain steeped in ancient history and grail mythology.

The five day Cathar Way Challenge will be raising funds for a charity called SpecialEffect who are dedicated to using technology to enhance the quality of life of people with all kinds of needs, including stroke and road traffic accident patients, individuals with life-limiting conditions and injured soldiers returning from overseas.

The Cathar Way Challenge is supported and promoted by RunningMonkey.co.uk

More About SpecialEffect:

SpecialEffect enable severely disabled people to use computers in any way possible – using whichever part(s) of their body that work best - by adapting technology to their individual needs.

Almost always, the people they help feel trapped in their bodies. It’s so important they can join in with family/friends, to be included and not left out. This can hugely benefit rehabilitation, mental wellbeing, self-esteem and quality of life.

SpecialEffect specialise in Eye Control Technology. Imagine: You wake up after an accident. You can’t move anything except your eyes. And you can’t speak. Through eye-movement alone, SpecialEffect help people operate a computer so they can communicate and regain a little independence - giving them a voice when they don’t have one of their own. Tom, a young boy helped by SpecialEffect wrote simply 'I just want to thank you for giving me my life back.'
