Story
I realised that a lot of people have donated and worked hard to raise cash for our projects over the years and now it was time for me to do something. I thought i should give a day of my life to do this - i mean thats not much to ask, right? So i then hatched a plan for a physical challenge, which took 24 hrs, encompassed the areas where Camps Foundation works and perhaps used some of our existing infrastrucutre to facilitate the challenge. And so the Camp 2 Camp Challenge was born. There are a number of brave individuals who are also mad enough to commit 24 hrs of their lives to this - they are:
Myself - Rory - Camps International Asia Director
Al - Camps Asia Operations Boss - he is getting married in September so is worried about having enough time to train.
Ian - Boss & Founder of Arkitrek who do amazing green designs and building, and are behind most of our main structures and camps - he is always up for the next challenge.
The Challenge: In very raw terms the plan is to cycle and trek for 24 hrs. The route will be from our camp at Tinangol in north of Sabah, cycling 80kms on relative flat before starting a hideous 70km all uphill nightmare, arriving at the base of Mount Kinabalu, trek to its summit (4096m) and back down again (approx 26km), then back on bikes for the final 45 km or so, arriving in Bongkud, one of our other camps just before the 24 hr cut off. We will likely start the cycle at 9pm, cycle through the night, start trekking around 8am, spending 10 or so hours on the mountain, giving us about 2 hrs for the final cycle, arriving before 9pm. Its going to be seriously unpleasant. My thinking is, if i am asking you to stick your hands in your pockets, then i want you to know we will be seriously putting out bodies through the mill, and more! Not some sponsored walk or tag team runathon where we do just a few hours gentle exercise. No - this is going to be an absolute bastard (excuse the language!).
And the cause? - well its for our Camps Foundation charity - http://www.campsinternational.com/foundation/index.html - and in particular i have been fund raising for these 2 locations and associated projects:

Please take your time to check out both these pages and the great stuff we are doing. We would all really appreciate your donations and also spreading the word and letting more people know about it. And as i always say, Lots of littles make a big! So whatever you can give that would be great. Thanks, we really appreciate it and will keep you updated on our plans and of course the event itself - will probably do hourly updates on our pain and level of unpleasantness as we go. Look out for it.
