Story

In October 2013, three Eton Fives courts are due to be completed in the new sports centre in Cambridge.  These will revolutionise fives in Cambridge, allowing the university club to hold home fixtures, avoiding several hours of travel every weekend at the cost of £20 per player.  It will also allow the club to hold group training sessions, as opposed to the one court practices held for the last twenty years, and to grow beyond the current membership of around forty players.  Plans have also been established to develop a city club, which will bring fives to the wider community and complement the activity of the university club.

In order to build these courts, the EFA has been asked to provide £440,000.  Fundraising has so far been highly successful, with over £400,000 of that having been achieved.  Nearly £40,000 remains to be raised, however, and in order to contribute towards this the university club has organised a 24 hour sponsored fives playathon, to be held on the one existing court at Magdalene College.  Around fifteen university members and alumni will be playing in rotation, from 12 noon on Saturday the 22nd of June to the same time on Sunday the 23rd.  We hope to raise £5,000 towards the cost of the courts, and would very gratefully receive donations of any size.

If you would prefer writing a cheque to donating online, please send one payable to "Cambridge University Eton Fives Club" to Jamie Abbott at Magdalene College.  If you would prefer to do it by bank transfer, please email Robert Wilson at rj.wilson@hotmail.co.uk for details.
