Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As most of you know mine and Matt's nephew Archie Watson was diagnosed recently with Tay-Sachs disease.
Tay Sachs is a genetic disorder that causes a relentless deterioration of both mental and physical abilities. By the time a child with Tay-Sachs disease is three or four-years old, the nervous system is so badly affected that life itself cannot be supported. Even with the best of care, all children with classic Tay-Sachs disease die early in childhood, usually by the age of 5, although some do live longer. There is currently no cure for Tay-Sachs or its associated diseases.
To show our support myself, Matt, Adam Gauci and a team of friends and family have decided to raise awareness for this rare disease by participating on a number of fundraising events with the first being the St Davids Day 5k and 10k Runs in Cardiff on the 4 March 2012.
We have decided to run on behalf of The CATS Foundation which was created by the parents and friends of a little girl called Amelie who was diagnosed with Tay-Sachs in March 2011 at the age of 15 months.
The majority of the donations the CATS Foundation we receive will go to the fight against Tay-Sachs and support the continuing research efforts in finding a cure for the disease.
CATS will also provide support to families, like Archie’s, who are unable to get vital equipment for the well being of their child from the health services.
Please support us anyway you can. Many thanks
Brian, Matt, Adam, Aiofe, Tom James, Tom Jones, Matt H, Deb, Adam, Jonathan, Jon and Kris
