Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I'm Bret Crossley. In September 2006 my life was turned upside down when I had a serious motorcycle racing accident that I was lucky to survive. My injuries were numerous, the worst of which was a spinal cord injury that has left me wheelchair dependant for life.
Since then I've taken up a number of activities, one of which is wheelchair racing that I started in Sept 2009. Last year I took part in 10k races in Leeds and York over the summer plus the Great North Run last September which was a fantastic experience. Now I've set my goals higher by entering the London Marathon. I qualified by setting a fast enough time at the Silverstone Half Marathon in March. Now I'm really looking forward to the event and training hard. In taking part I'm hoping to raise money for Aspire that have very kindly given me my own racing wheelchair. Here is some information about them:
Every eight hours someone sustains a spinal cord injury and is told they may never walk again. Incurring a spinal cord injury is a horrific life changin experience with no warning, no preventative medicine, no time to prepare. Aspire is there to support people with a spinal cord injury. This is done through a range of practical projects nationwide including adapted accessible houses, specialist computer equipment, practical advice and grants for the necessary equipment to lead an independant and fulfilled life.
