Story
Our Superhero nephew Josh was born last October with a Group B Strep infection. He was rushed to intensive care at Homerton and then transferred to Great Ormond Street intensive care where he started smashing records young being the sickest baby there!
After weeks in GOSH, Josh was then released to Newham hospital and then finally home. He has now had his 6 month check and the Doctor's have said how LUCKY we are as he is as well as any other baby his age (look at the gorgeous smile!).
It was the most dreadful time for us as a family and it could have ended very differently. This charity is campaigning to make sure that less people have to go through it. It's not just about the money, it's about raising awareness to make sure all your pregnant friends and family are being tested as it is not a routine test currently (something GBSS are campaigning for). The test is only £40 private, can be done at home and it can make such a difference to not just the child but the many, many people- family, friends, work colleagues, friends of friends, (random strangers you feel need to hear about it), who are affected when something like this happens.
Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months. On average in the UK, at least-two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection -one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and-one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities – physical, mental or both.Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
