Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year my wife Alison was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer almost accidentally as she was suffering with gall stones, and mentioned to the consultant that she had passed some blood, and was this connected with it. He didn't think so, and sent her for an endoscope examination, where the bombshell was dropped. Alison then set about finding as much as she could about the cancer and the treatments available, and found the 'Beating Bowel Cancer' charity, who gave her good information and advice, and supported her through the surgery and chemotherapy she was undergoing. She found out that when discovered at stage 1 that with treatment, there is a 93% cure rate, but if found at stage 4 this falls to 7%. Alison's was discovered late and is battling to be one of the lucky 7%.
'Beating Bowel Cancer' is fighting to raise awareness both among the general public, but also among the medical profession., as Alison now knows she had symptoms for some time, but this had been put down to IBS, or piles.
December has been re-named 'Decembeard' with the challenge for me to grow a beard for charity, and 'Beating Bowel Cancer' obviously is the charity I wish to support, so I have hereby ceased my shaving activities, and should look particularly scruffy in time for Christmas!
