Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Blossom's Appeal page for the Cariad Rose Trust.
Cariad is a 10 year old girl who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (type 1). Professionals told Cariad and her family that she wouldn't live to do anything typical - to read, write, speak without the aid of communications devices, use a computer, or be in any way independent and even experience pleasure or pain or live beyond the age of two. Cariad has however confounded professionals by achieving so many of these goals already by using her grit and determination together with her parent's philosophy of normality and giving her every chance they can. Cariad goes to school and enjoys all the things that you would expect a girl of that age to enjoy, despite the SMA type 1, which is a devastating condition and means that Cariad is physically disabled with weak muscles, including her respiratory system. She cannot sit unassisted and without the aid of ventilation. She spends most time laying down on her back or side and requires others to turn her and look after her airway when off the ventilator.
Blossom is delighted to be supporting The Cariad Rose Trust whose main objective is to raise funds enabling Cariad to experience more of the world and life, by making a holiday to America possible, expanding her life experience by flying and visiting another country and making her number one wish come true - to go to Disneyland.
Blossom is also happy to be promoting awareness of a specific fund raising event for the Cariad Rose Trust being undertaken by Jez Howat (Cariad's father) and Michael Meilton (Jez's work collegue & friend). The two adventurers are embarking on a continuous trip from Lands End to John O'Groats using only local bus services!!!! and aiming to complete the trip within 7 days - stopping only for sleep.
Blossom would like to wish Jez and Michael all the best and encourage everyone who hears about the Cariad Rose Trust to support this event with generous donations.
