Story
We hope you have read and shared the Biscuit Poetry blog http://biscuitpoetry.blogspot.co.uk. If you like the poems we hope you will donate some pennies.
Headway supports individuals with acquired brain injuries - injuries sustained from road traffic accidents, assults, brain haemorrhages and strokes. They run lots of different supported activities from cooking to badminton to gardening to creative writing. Each day starts with a tea or coffee break and more often than not some biscuits. A group of us started writing poems together about the biscuits, it was often quite tricky - like pulling teeth or having a baby, but we just stuck at it and eventually a poem would form.
Now we sit down together every Tuesday with a different packet of biscuits and write - somehow we are always inspired, it's a great feeling, a real sense of creative achievement. There are so many different biscuits out there, we want to write a poem about everyone of them.
Collaborative poetry writing is a great form of creative therapy for people with brain injuries. The Biscuit Poets at Headway Southampton are raising money to support more creative writing sessions for more people with brain injuries and to embark on performance poetry sessions too.
