Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I manage the outreach support service for people who sleep on the streets and I was inspired by the work Manchester's Homeless Partnership have done and continue to do.....to make a real and big change in the lives of people who are homeless.
Why on earth did I choose a half marathon?!? Four years ago I was banned from running following a diagnosis of a chronic musculoskeletal condition. Whilst fixable it will take me a long time to correct. Walking twenty minutes rendered me in agony and I never thought I’d run again. Seven months ago my physio agreed I could try a light run and two weeks later I decided to do a half marathon! I never imagined after four years of hard work I’d be running this distance!
A lot of things can be achieved if you put your mind and heart to it. I wanted to bring people working in the homeless sector and people who want to make a big change in peoples lives together to show we can make a difference together and our journey in Manchester to end Homelessness needs the involvement of everyone including you.
If you want to support my team in the half marathon please come down and support us on the day, even better take the time to read about the Big Change below and share the message. If you can spare it please support this cause and donate what you can. I’ve seen first hand time and time again how this fund makes a real and lasting change to helping people move from the streets into their own accommodation.
The Big Change Manchester is a group of Manchester charities, organisations and voluntary sector agencies providing services for homeless people who have come together to tackle homelessness in the city. The Big Change is working together to provide sustainable, long-term solutions to homelessness.
Money donated to the Big Change campaign fund will provide people who are homeless with the practical items they need to build new lives off the streets. This can include help with furnishing a new flat, purchasing crockery, pots and pans and bed linen, and travel to new accommodation. As people are coming off the streets need money urgently, there won't be a lengthy application process and funds can be issued almost immidiately by accredited memebers of homeless organisations.
