Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page:
Having been a devoted mother for the past 23 years my journey with horses started later in life than most. My experience with Macmillan however started long before, I set out as an NHS nurse over 25 years ago specialising in palliative patients and I have witnessed on countless occasions the very often life-changing differences the dedicated Macmillan Nurses make, they touch so many lives and deserve all the support we can give. It is this first-hand experience that has given me the drive and determination to raise as many ££££’s as possible for this incredible charity and I will be forever grateful for this opportunity.
Hurdles (pardon the pun) to overcome:
- Past Experience - Having only been in the saddle for 12 years and being a woman in my early forties the change of saddle to that similar to a rocking horses’ was the first shock, couple that with a pair of stirrups the length of my 6year olds and this was a whole new game. In the last couple of months I have hit the gallops tirelessly to overcome my fears, not without a tale or two to tell.
- Racing fit - I’ve always been skinny jeans fit but never racing fit, the coming months will see me give up nearly all my favourite things and I am currently in training so as to ensure that by June 11th I am officially ‘Racing Fit’, after 3 children anyone will tell you this isn’t going to be easy but as the saying goes ‘If you believe, you can achieve’.
My thanks go to Macmillan and York Racecourse for giving me the opportunity to fulfil the dream of riding in front of thousands of people. I am especially grateful to Team L. Egerton Racing for trusting me enough to put me in the saddle and lastly, I would also like to thank you, both for visiting and reading this page and if you can, leaving a donation. I look forward to seeing you in the winners enclosure on the 11th June ;-)
