Great North Run 2016 · 11 September 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money this year to support the work of the Great North Air Ambulance - a charity that my Granda supported throughout his life.
Our family had some tragic news on 31st January 2016 that my Granda had been involved in a fatal collision with a horsebox whilst out cycling.
Granda used to cycle around 20 miles a day - every day with the exception of high winds and he was truly devoted to his bike; he even thought that 20 miles a day was rubbish - even at the age of 82!
Granda had ridden over 650,000 miles in his lifetime - that's the equivalent to 27 times around the world making him the 6th highest mileage rider in the highly prestigous 300,000 miles club - a real achievement he was such an inspiration. He also rode from Darlington; completed Land's end to John O'groats both ways and cycled back home to Darlington in 17 days.
The news of his death came as a massive shock to all the family and we have learnt that the air ambulance was called to the scene to try and assist; unfortunately my Grandad had suffered a serious head injury and could not be revived.
Grandad had supported the GNAAS as all his life therefore we wish to continue fundraising for this life saving charity in his memory.
Whilst time passes and fades away his memories will forever be in our hearts; we will remember him for the kind, caring, generous, loving man that he always was.
God needed another angel to watch over us all that day and he chose the best in my Grandad.
May he ride in heaven with my Grandma forever more; until we meet again Grandad; I miss you dearly.
