Story
I hadn't ridden a bike for years, but took the plunge in July and agreed to ride day 1 of the 1400km London to Monaco trip for Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE). I'm one of about 60 cycling to raise money and awareness for the BLUE projects.
From a starting point of poor fitness and a painful belt, the prospect of 120km in one fast hit, with 1200m of vertical gain seemed daunting but the prospect of empty, dead seas was far worse. Your sponsorship will make a real difference to the oceans, through BLUE.
BLUE aims to put 10% of the world's oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030. It's run by a highly efficient, brilliantly connected team of experts. Real progress is being made, through their commitment, expertise and connections. By creating marine reserves and sustainable models of fishing - globally - BLUE will counter overfishing and consequent food security and biodiversity issues. Healthy oceans absorb half the CO2 we produce. Around 90% of global fish stocks are fully or over-exploited and around 90% of large fish are gone.
The inaugural London to Monaco Cycle Ride in 2016 raised over £250,000 for crucial ocean conservation. Read more at http://www.bluemarinefoundation.com/
This year we're hoping to raise even more funds for twice as many projects, including Ascension Island, Aeolian Islands, The Solent and Beyond Plastic Med.
Thank you so much for your support.....
