Team: Africa for Amy
Hi everyone, thanks for visiting our JustGiving page. We are trying to raise money for a cause very important to us!
House and Boz will be climbing Kilimanjaro alongside Ryan, in memory and honour of his sister, Amy.
Amy - known in the family as Princess Amy Louise - P.A.L - lost a long and hard fought battle with cancer on 16th May 2022 at the age of 38.
Amy was one of Boz's tattoo clients from when he was based in Stafford. Amy continued to come and get tattooed in Sutton Coldfield all the way up until she started her chemotherapy treatment! She was always happy and had some of the best stories to tell! Amy had her end of life care at the Katherine House hospice in Stafford where Boz's own sister works and was actually caring for Amy! They had conversations about their tattoos which was nice to know. He has also been tattooing Ryan (Amy’s brother) for many years and wants to be there to not only get up this mountain for himselfself, but to support Ryan on his journey and celebrate what would of been Amy’s 40th birthday at the top of Kilimanjaro
Amy showed staggering levels of bravery and determination throughout over 2 and a half years worth of intensive, invasive treatment, aided by her unwavering stubborn streak. Unfortunately all forms of treatment were exhausted and the illness took her away from us and left a huge hole in their family.
During the course of her treatment Amy went to Katharine House in the first instance for some respite care, then returning to receive palliative care until the end of her life. She would speak regularly about how much she loved it there and her family witnessed how amazing the staff are, and the treatment received there is. We cannot state how highly we think of Katharine house!
Ryan and Amy discussed fundraising for Katharine House and when Kilimanjaro was mentioned Amy said she would love to have a go at it when she got better. Since Amy's passing, Ryan decided to look into things further, and found a trip which is due to summit on what would have been Amy's 40th birthday. Perfect.
Losing a family member - or anyone - at what feels like such an unjust or unfair young age can be hard to cope with. Climbing this mountain together will be an unbelievable opportunity and if we can raise money for our local hospice while doing it then that would be amazing. We are looking to raise at least £2600 EACH but we truly believe we can go above and beyond this, please help us smash this target!
It costs Katharine House just over £3m to provide all of their services free of charge, and of that £2m is raised by their supporters.
Katharine House provides free hospice care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured. Our aim is to enable our patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that's left.
