Story
Two years ago my granddad passed away. Truth is I "lost" my granddad many years before his passing. See one night my granddad went to bed, and had several vascular strokes. This lead to a rare form of vascular dementia called Binswanger disease.
Binswanger's disease is a type of dementia caused by widespread microscopic areas of damage, to the deep layers of white matter in the brain. The damage is result of the thickening and narrowing of arteries that feed the subcortical areas of the brain.
My granddad changed overnight. It was heart breaking to see his suffering. To watch his frustration at not knowing the right words or actions. "He just didn't know how to anymore".
One day we received a phone call from his nursing home to say he'd had a fall, and he was rushed to hospital, turns out he'd actually had another stroke. My granddad never left hospital that time, he died less than a week later.
60 of us have been challenged to raise £600 each for Alzheimer's society, some are doing a bike ride to all 17 venues (200+ miles) in 24 hours, some are doing marathons, all impressive stuff. But I have an issue with my spine, which means even getting up off the loo is a challenge, running after the ice cream van a dream, nevermind running 10k. So, I'm going to do several challenges for fundraising, from a sponsored sobriety, to a raffle, and an auction. You can check out how the rest of my team get on, by clicking "Team: 60/600 challenge" under my photo.
Thanks in advance for any and all support.
