Story

WE'VE DONE IT!

Read all about it at: http://www.anguslejog2013.blogspot.co.uk/

... but the story remains the same and there is still time to donate!

He's 9, full of life, as bright as a button, cheeky (extremely cheeky in fact), funny, demonstrative, a fan of Top Gear (oh well), affectionate, challenging, interested in armour (no choice), energetic, loyal, obsessed with playing army, caring, getting good at cricket, always ready for a joke, crazy about Lego and constantly lecturing me on my behaviour. And he's all these things in a safe and loving home with two parents who think he's the best thing since strawberry milkshake. But it wasn't always this way ...

He's why I am joining 2 equally creaky friends and cycling 80 to 100 miles a day from Land's End until we reach John O'Groats (that's right, south to north, which is uphill) to raise money for Adoption UK. Adoption UK is a wonderful charity that makes life better for children who have suffered trauma, loss and sometimes severe neglect. Adoptive children have special emotional needs. For many children, their early life trauma can lead to emotional, behavioural, educational and developmental difficulties which may also affect their ability to form secure attachments and relationships. 1 in 5 adoptions breaks down. A sense of loss can be carried through life no matter how secure and safe an adoptive family may be and no matter how young a child was when taken into care. Like all adoptive parents, we are determined that our son's early experiences will not inhibit his potential.

This is why Adoption UK is so important. This registered charity does not receive central government funding but relies solely on the generosity of members and supporters to make adoptions work and to promote loving and supportive relationships between children and their adoptive families. The charity also provides independent support, information and advice on good practice to all concerned with adoption and offers a wealth of relevant experience from generations of adoptive families to prospective and established adopters and to all those who work with them.

Thank you very much for your support. I really appreciate it... and I'll really need it as I am huffing and puffing over the Scottish Highlands.
