Fundraising for Marie Curie
Story
Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this xx
I am walking 45km on the 29th October to raise as much money as I possibly can for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
In October last year my dad, Jimmy (Jim) Mason was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease, a side effect of the drugs he took to control his Rheumatoid Arthritis.
In the space of two weeks we were faced with the worse news, that there was nothing more they could do........ Yes it was that quick! We all rallied round and I have to say the last two weeks we had with my dad we all made some lovely memories, that we will all cherish. Mum, me and Jo kept spirits high at all times, we had many tears of laughter at James Cook HDU, I'm sure at times, our laughter could be heard around the ward.
The doctors and nurses were amazing, what a fabulous job they do!!! After being told that there was no way that dad could come home, due to the severity of his illness, we were told that there may be a chance we could get him home, with no guarantees that he would make it there. Without question dad accepted the challenge (as he alway did) and things were put into place to get him home. Everyone doctors and nurses worked around the clock to make it possible and dad arrived home at around 2am in the morning. We all had a vodka and Diet Coke together and. slept.
That's when Marie Curie became our life line, they came in the next day and from then on they were absolutely fantastic, I can not honestly put into words the gratitude that I would like to express for all that they did for dad and the support that they offered out family and for that, I owe them an eternal debt. This is the reason why I am walking 45K, so I can give something back to repay, in some way, what they have done for me. Thank you xx
