Story

Wembley here I come!

On Monday August 20th I’ll be joining a massive challenge to raise funds for Rugby League Cares, the 2018 UK Red Ride to Wembley.

Starting from Old Trafford, we’ll be avoiding tarmac whenever and wherever possible on a gruelling 300-mile off-road bike ride along canal towpaths, forest trails and, when things go wrong (which they will!) ploughed fields and meadows.

We’re hoping to arrive at Wembley on the afternoon of Friday August 24th, the eve of the Challenge Cup final: it’s going to be incredible cycling up Wembley Way!

There are 27 of us on the ride, all raising money for a charity that does so much good for the sport we all love. The riders include six other recently retired Super League players, which is a fantastic demonstration of support from some of the game’s heroes.

RL Cares is a fully independent charity that works across every area of the game: it needs all our support to keep doing what it does.

I’ve seen at first hand many examples of how RL Cares helps players, in particular. The charity provides grants to help players retrain of get qualifications at the end of their careers so they have a life after rugby.

There’s also a hardship fund, which players can access when things go badly wrong with their club.

RL Cares is on track to open up the sport’s first ever National Rugby League Museum: hopefully by taking part in the ride they won’t expect me to be an exhibit! And the work they do with organisations like State of Mind, Movember and Oddballs really is saving lives.

I’m going the extra mile for a very special cause and would really appreciate it if you could support me: Rugby League fans are the most generous in the world so please help me put something back into the game that has given me, and you, so much.

Cheers,

Lynchy
