Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page - the home for my fund raising efforts for the 2011 Deloitte Ride Across Britain.
Deloitte Ride Across Britain is our annual corporate challenge which sees 600 people riding from John O’Groats to Land’s End, with the aim of raising £1million for ParalympicsGB.
I have therefore been training hard over Winter and into Spring (a challenge in itself) in preparation for this gruelling event.
Just stepping back and putting this into context...a cyclosportive is a long distance, organised, mass-participation cycling event, typically held annually. Sportives are cycling's cousin of running a marathon. Rather than racing other participants, cyclists use sportives to challenge themselves in a personal battle against the distance and then ultimately, the clock. For the 950 mile epic trip from John O’Groats to Land’s End, it means a “cyclosportive-a-day” – back-to-back – for 9 days.
For this “pleasure”, I have committed to raising funds for Deloitte’s Disability Sport programme (more details below) and I really would appreciate your support and sponsorship. I still have a lot of training and preparation to go and seeing the donations and feedback come through, it really will help spur me on before the event itself.
Why ParalympicsGB? Deloitte Disability Sport encourages and supports disabled people on their journey through sport - from participation, through performance, to the podium. Deloitte’s role goes beyond straightforward investment. With our Disability Sport partners, ParalympicsGB and SportsAid, Deloitte have identified new ways to get disabled people active, to develop their talents and become successful competitors. Together we are developing solutions that impact Disability Sport in the UK and make a real difference to people's lives. Deloitte has invested over £1.7million in our five-year Disability Sport Programme. This contribution has been matched by Government, making a total of £3.4million.
Finally, a big thank you to my wife and girls, in allowing me to give-up our family time to train for this event. Many many hours have been spent in the saddle and a special thanks goes to them.
