Story
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Andrew Onishi and I am from Los Angeles, California. I graduated from San Diego State University, and I am currently an English teacher for ILA in Vietnam. I have been living in Ho Chi Minh City for the past nine months, and will be participating in the H2H Ride for Vietnamese Children 2014 this upcoming April.
19 other riders and I will be riding 1300 miles over 27 days from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city on bicycles to raise money for organizations that work with underpriviledged children in Vietnam. All of the money raised for this years ride will be donated directly to Charity!
Our main partner this year is Saigon Children's Charity. The SCC aims to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs. The SCC is distinguished for giving scholarships, building schools, running a vocational school in Saigon and working with other, smaller organizations that focus on children with disabilities. They enable over 3,000 children to go to school everyday in Vietnam! Its area of operation is in the south of Vietnam, around HCMC, the Mekong Delta and extending to the Cambodian border. Another organziation that we support is Live and Give, which is a foundation based in Belgium, whose main purpose is to help disadvantaged minority children in central Vietnam. Its biggest accomplishment is the construction of Thien An boarding school in Pleiku in central Vietnam. Funds will go towards building facilities there for orphans from minority groups in the Central Highlands. Another project is being launched in Thua Thien Hue province and some of our funds will also support the construction of this project. The government wants to build a kindergarten in that valley where the young minority kids can get taught the Vietnamese language and where they get a free meal. Opportunities like this don't come around very often, and this is something that I would like all of you to be a part of!
Please donate whatever you can, because anything counts! Thank you for your time and interest, and if you would like to know more details about the actual ride, you can visit the H2H blog at: www.h2hcharityride.org & www.h2hrfvc.blogspot.com
