Story

12 months ago, along with 24 of friends and colleagues we experienced the incredible work MAG does to support many communities in Vietnam & Cambodia who are suffering from the outcomes of war & the terrible damage caused by land mines.

We managed to raise an amazing £136k last year and helped MAG make a big difference to the lives of more than 1.4 million men, women and children.

I wanted to join the team again this year to cycle 450kms across some war-torn parts of Sri Lanka and raise over £125k.

Today, nine people will lose their lives or suffer serious injury because of landmines, unexploded bombs and other weapons. Almost half will be children. Every day, millions of people live in fear of death or injury, unable to make a living and trapped in poverty by the legacy of war and conflict. Everyone is at risk.

It is not fair, and it is not right, that people should be condemned to live in poverty and danger. People have a right to a safe future, free from fear, so they can rebuild their lives after conflict.

MAG finds and destroys landmines and other unexploded weapons to clear land for people affected by conflict, so they can go about their daily lives free from danger and fear. MAG’s work has benefited nearly 15 million people, helping them to re-establish their livelihoods and improve their families’ lives. Above all, it gives people a future free from the fear of death and injury to them and their children.

One of the millions of people who MAG has helped is Rathika and her son Dilakson who returned to Mannar district in Sri Lanka after spending three years in a displaced peoples camp because of the war. She said, “The land is safe and we are safe. We grow vegetables and have chickens. We could not be here at all if the landmines were still here."
Together we can make the world a safer place, so please dig deep and sponsor me today!
