As you may have heard, I’ve set myself a new physical challenge to help raise money for charity. With a group of women from Women on a Mission Singapore, I will be journeying into the landscape of the “Flower People”, an indigenous tribe of Siberut Island, the largest of the Mentawai Islands, in Sumatra to raise money for Women for Women International.

I will pay to suffer, hopefully take some amazing photos for you to look at, and use the trip as opportunity to get your attention and redirect it to donate to Women for Women International, helping disadvantaged women everywhere. There’s going to be mosquitos, leeches, mud, sweat and tears, without air con or a glass of vino in sight - hell on earth!!! I’m parting with my own hard-earned cash to slash my way through jungle, forgo showers for sweat, subsist on insects, and sleep rough for a week.Why????

I’m coming up soon on my five year mark post cancer - so many amazing women supported me through my own battle and I wanted to mark this event by doing something to pay it back and challenge myself in the process. I’m privileged to live in a society where I can receive an education, vote, drive, protect my children, enjoy a safe environment, and achieve financial independence. But for countless women around the world this is not a reality. In many regions, mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers and aunties have no choice but to live with no access to clean water, schools, housing, employment or support from abuse. They raise our next generation while war, drought and repression rages on around them. By making a donation here and now 100% of the money you pledge will go directly to Women for Women International, a UK-based charity dedicated to advancing the position of women around the world.

Collectively, our goal is to raise SGD$100,000. None of the money being raised will pay for our trip, it’s all going to a great cause. That’s it. Donate as little or as much as you can.
