We help people who have lost their homes to build their new beginnings

Story

Please support The Truth About Stanley, and the homelessness charities who will benefit from it.

Anchor House (Charity Registration No. 253669) is a nationally acclaimed residential life-skills centre based in Canning Town - the third most deprived borough in England and Wales. It supports up to 200 single homeless people each year to address the root causes of their homelessness through training, education, rehabilitation, volunteering and health and wellbeing programmes.

The Big Issue Foundation (Charity Registration No.1049077) is a national charity which connects vendors with the vital support and solutions that enable them to rebuild their lives and journey away from homelessness. Nearly 100 people a week turn to the Big Issue for an opportunity to help themselves at a time of utter personal crisis. The Big Issue Foundation strives to support 2,500 vendors across the country. We urgently need to offer more support and hope for the future.

The Truth About Stanley is a drama on homelessness set on the streets of London. The film aims to jointly raise money for Anchor House and the Big Issue Foundation. Its executive producers are Oscar-winning Trademark Films.

The Truth about Stanley stars acclaimed Kenyan actor Oliver Litondo, the lead from the international feature film The First Grader – a film that just won Litondo Best Actor at the prestigious AARP Movies for Grownups Awards and a nomination for Outstanding Actor at the coveted NAACP Image Awards. The Truth About Stanley also stars 12-year-old Raif Clarke and Andrew Lee Potts, lead role in ITV’s Primeval. It was shot in five days in locations in and around central London in early December 2011.

The film features the songs “Give up the Ghost” by Radiohead and “I Gave You All” by Mumford and Sons. Jon Opstad has composed the original score.

Lucy Tcherniak, who won the 2008 Smoke and Mirrors 48 Hour Film Challenge for her film I Stood Up, has directed the 20-minute film. Lucy wrote the script for The Truth About Stanley with Neil Westley, who was runner-up in the 2011 Director’s Circle Scriptwriting Selection.

The film premiered on 2 April 2012 and went live online on 4 April 2012.
