Story
Welcome from Linda Feerick, Liz Gooster, David Huntley, Daniel Burke, Ann Orton, Ruth Sack, Linda Woolston, Nigel Feerick.
Have we gone a bit mad?
When we first saw the posters for Trailtrekker we realised this was a great opportunity. We work professionally at making a difference to individuals, teams and organisations and here was the chance to make a huge difference to the lives of people we will never meet. It has given all of us an opportunity to find a role in the event (e.g. mapreader, quartermaster, first aider, logistics guide) and set ourselves some personal targets that we can only achieve in an event like this. For sure there are moments when we think a 20 minute sponsored silence might have been a better idea, but hey where is the challenge in that?
What is Trailtrekker?
Trailtrekker is a 100km trek for teams of four, over 30 hours (yes, that's day and night!) across the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Around 300 teams take part in the event each year, all raising money to help people in poverty. There are three challenges : Bronze (40km); Silver (65km) and Gold (100km). It is taking place on 1st & 2nd June 2013. There will be a team of 4 walkers and 4 support crew, who will meet the walkers at various checkpoints and provide drinks, food, first aid (!) and moral support.
What difference will the donations make?
We had a choice of pledges and decided to go for £10,000. This is a serious amount of money but it will build 120 homes above flood plains in Bangladesh where communities are being hit by increasingly severe floods. Raising homes can protect families from danger. All donations are appreciated by us and by Oxfam and will truly make a difference.
Thank you
For all the donations we have received to date. We are pushing towards our £10,000 target and have been delioghted and humbled by the support and generosity that you have shown to us.
