Story
As many of you know, back in March I naively signed up to do the London Triathlon for charity thinking “How hard can it be?” and got a bit of a shock when I did my kilometres to miles conversions, started speaking to people and realised that I wouldn’t be swimming in a nice clean pool but outside in the London Dock, remembered that I hadn’t been on a bike for years and was the only one in school to fail the cycling proficiency test.
However, on the weekend of 1st/2nd August I will be swimming 1,500 metres; cycling 40km and running 10km to raise funds for the World Development Movement (WDM). The World Development Movement is an anti-poverty group that works to tackle the underlying causes of poverty. WDM works alongside people in the developing world; researches, campaigns and lobbies decision makers to change the policies that keep people poor. If you would like to know more about WDM please take a look at their website: http://www.wdm.org.uk/. Since March, I’ve been training hard (sort of!). I’ve now finally got round to getting a bike, I’ve done a smaller practice triathlon and my wetsuit arrived this morning. I’ve read a few triathlon magazines and got some tips about using elastic laces and Vaseline. So, I’m fully committed and determined to tri my hardest (sorry!). I would be truly, very grateful to you for any sponsorship. I have been involved with the North London WDM group this year, know the great work that WDM do and think that this is a really worthwhile cause.
