Primarily because Ben didn't tell me there was a 5k option, I am attempting to run the Great Eastern half marathon on 11th October 2015!
I am running in memory of Kim Hayes, my goodfriend Ben Hayes' dad, and in support of the brilliant people at Hunts Community Cancer Network (HCCN).
Below is Ben's family's story:
"Some of you may or may not know our father sadly passed away very recently after a long fight with prostate cancer. Throughout his incredible fight, he refused to let this have a significant effect on his life. He began an incredible journey that saw him cycle the length and breadth of the UK, running one half marathon and four marathons. He was passionate about being active and raising money for Prostate cancer and other cancer charities.
We would like to continue his journey with our family and friends!
Hunts Community Cancer Network is small local charity that help people who are living with cancer to take back their lives and to play an active part in managing their health. They gave our mum and dad a huge amount of support in the last year of his life.
For those that knew our Dad, we’re sure you will agree that getting people running 13 miles for charity would have put a great smile on his face!"
Having personally experienced how invaluable charities like the Hunts Community Cancer Network are, I know just how much support and comfort they can bring to everyone affected by cancer. They really are INCREDIBLE people - putting life into days, even when days cannot always be added to lives.
Please give as much as you can - it will help us all get round the 13 miles together!
