Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 13 October I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to fundraise for Breast Cancer Now in memory of my sister in law, Julie Chambers, who died from breast cancer on 31 March 2019.
Julie was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in June 2017.
Julie was 41 and leaves a husband and two children.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and right now and 15% of all breast cancers are triple negative
Triple negative breast cancers tend to be highly aggressive and are more likely to spread to another part of the body where they become incurable.
There are limited treatment options because there are still no targeted treatments that can help to prevent reoccurrence, unlike the targeted hormone therapies that are available for other more common types of breast cancer. Consequently five year survival rates are lower than any other form of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Now is the UK's largest breast cancer charity, dedicated to funding research into this devastating disease. They believe that if we all act now, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live.
Research is the key for the future prevention, detection and treatment of the disease and to improve the chances of survival for all those diagnosed.
Their research is focused on four key areas; risk and prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment and secondary breast cancer.
By fundraising through donations I hope to support this research.
No matter how big or small, I’m truly grateful for your generosity and support.
Thank you
Alex💕
