We undertake critical brain tumour research to improve survival rates across the World.

Story

On Sunday 6th September I'm taking part in (and hopefully completing) the River Dart 10k Swim to raise money for Amelia's Appeal and the University of Nottingham Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children in the UK. Of children diagnosed with a brain tumour only 20% survive 5 years beyond diagnosis. But brain tumour research in the UK currently only receives less than 1% of cancer research funding.

During 2015 the villagers of Houghton & Wyton have been raising funds in support of a brave little girl who has been diagnosed with an inoperable tumour in the brain stem, spinal cord and cerebellum.

The University of Nottingham Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre performs pioneering research into genetic abnormalities of brain tumours, novel imaging techniques and drug delivery. The Centre also excels in diagnosis, innovative treatment and raising awareness. Additional funding will enable crucial advances to be made in understanding and treating childhood brain tumours.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible to help fund further research and hopefully find a cure. A fantastic amount has already been raised but more is needed - so this is me doing my bit.

Please give generously. All donations will be greatly appreciated by me and the other supporters of Amelia's Appeal.
