Adil's Charity Trek 2018

Charity Trek 2018 · 17 November 2018
Welcome everyone,
This year I will be climbing up Cadair Idris to raise money for those affected by the East Africa drought in Somalia.
In 2011, more than a quarter of a million-people died during a famine. More than half died before the famine was even declared. The drought impending famine has left the country and its people in a desperate situation. Over 6 million people are in need of food assistance, more than half the country's population. For many in East Africa, the current drought is the worst in living memory. The very low rainfall coupled with high temperatures has exhausted people’s ability to cope with many families leaving their homes to survive.
The drought is slowly killing everything it has swept away the land, pastures and the animals. People are sick with flu, diarrhoea, and measles. They are resorting to eating leaves and other foods unsuited for humans and lacking in nourishment. Girls are dropping out of school to help their families find water. Mothers are eating less than one meal a day, as they give what little they have to their children. Women are nearly always hit hardest in emergencies, and famine is no exception. Malnutrition, weakened immune systems and the resulting spread of disease put an additional strain on women’s traditional responsibility as care givers.
Together with the help of your donation we can put an end to the suffering. The money raised will help deliver food parcels, clean water, medicines and help setup mobile clinics to treat those affected by the crisis.
