Story
This year’s big charity challenge will see me climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. I will be doing this for the Steve Prescott foundation, a charity that is very close to my heart. We all seem to have someone we know and love, be effected by cancer, and I will play my small part in helping raise much needed funds to help fight this nasty disease and help to find a cure.
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Tanzania, the highest mountain in Africa, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level.
Myself and 12 others will be departing the UK on the 27 of August, and climb up & down this monster mountain in just 5 days. This is the fastest time you are allowed to attempt the climb in.
We will be facing many challenges, but the biggest challenge will be Altitude sickness—also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). My body will not be used to the thin air as we climb the mountain, so I hae no idea how the body will hold up, but seeing as I am doing the climb for Steve Prescott MBE, a guy who has become an inspiration to me over the past 7 years, I am sure any migraine, nose bleeds, burst ear drums, blurred vision, vomiting will be accepted, and simply push on until the summit is reached.
Training has commenced, I climbed Snowdon in 3hr 58 minutes, and training will continue with further climbs of Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis planned. Also the Yorkshire 3 peaks will be part of the training regime.
So if you can spare some £££, if you think you can help with any fund raising ideas, if you want to come along and join in on some training walks, please do feel free to donate & also spread the word. Every penny and every £ counts in our fight to find a cure.
Thank you, and see you at the top. Or as they say in Swahili, kuona wewe kwa juu.
