If you are reading this then thank you and please, please give me 5 minutes to read the below!!!!!
The tiny new born baby, hidden under the tubes, pipes and equipment in the photo above is my little sister Adele. It was taken in 1990 when she was rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital 3 weeks after her birth, for a series of emergency operations on a rare heart defect which she was born with. Those closest to me know how grateful, and forever indebted, I am for the help they gave Adele, my family and I at a time of worry and heartache. Put simply without the skill and expertise of the staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital my sister would not have survived and gone on to enjoy the life she now has. I too would not have had the privilege of watching her grow over the past 26 (almost 27) years as not just my sister but also one of my closest friends.
Everyday Great Ormond Street Hospital admits children with serious illnesses. They provide ongoing treatment for many 1000s of children who live with symptoms and conditions which without the hospitals help would be inconceivable to suffer. Great Ormond Street Hospitals skill and expertise saves the lives of children daily, giving them and their families hope for the future whilst providing the support often craved at times of great heartache.
I appreciate how incredibly fortunate I am to have my sister, alive and well, but there are many mothers, father, brothers, sisters and wider families who not as fortunate. In April 2017 Adele completed her own personal challenge by running the London Marathon to raise money for Great Ormond Street.
As a small way of me to say thank you to this fantastic Hospital, I have signed up to take on the challenge of The London Triathalon on July 22nd. I am not a swimmer and certainly not a triathlete but I do enjoy a challenge and this is a way for me to say thank you to Great Ormond Street whilst putting myself through some pain and discomfort! As part of a group of like minded fools; The Achy Breaky Bears, of which I am one, we will all taking on the challenge fro Great Ormond Street.
I am doing the triathlon for one reason: To try and raise some money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. If you can spare ANY of your hard earned cash, even a quid or the cost of a coffee, to sponsor me I would be eternally grateful. I can guarantee that ANY donations will be put to great use by Great Ormond who continue to help children and families by performing, what I can personally testify, feel like miracles.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.........if your still reading then PLEASE, PLEASE get your cash out!!!!!!!!!
