As many of you know my beautiful nanny Margie sadly passed away at Christmas!
The story of her illness began with tummy ache in the summer (funnily enough the week after we got home from my London-Paris cycle) after a month or so had passed doctors started looking into what was going wrong with my Nan. Sadly in October she was diagnosed with cancer that had started off as overian cancer & spread to her stomach & lungs!
After not too long a little hope was given & in November my Nan started getting treated with chemotherapy in the Liverpool womens hospital, as always she remained as positive as ever & would go for her treatment just as though she was going to the shops or the bingo, not a care in the world & happy as always! The staff made her feel very comfortable & managed to make a not so good experience as enjoyable as possible!
Sadly only a few weeks into her treatment our lovely Nan passed away more suddenly than we had expected, her husband, children, grandchildren & friends have all been left completely heartbroken.
Through our heartache we know that wouldn't be good enough for our Nan, she was the most colourful person I have ever came across in all my life, who lived her whole life to the full & she would not be happy if we all sat in sadness, so I won't, instead I have chose to carry on living for her, making the most of every moment I can & continuing to make her proud! Starting with this, a cycle across Ireland from cork to Dublin!
I've chosen another cycle as my last truly happy memory of my Nan in good health was being in Paris, she had such a good time & I'll never forget her face when I arrived at the Eiffel Tower, she couldn't have been prouder if she tried!
Liverpool women's hospital has been my choice of charity for a number of reasons, not only did they provide excellent care for my Nan during her last weeks, my lovely friend Kayleigh Southern was diagnosed with cancer towards the end of last year, from a child Kayleigh has always been the most calming, caring friend I had, such a gentle person who takes everything in her stride! Although just this week Kayleigh started losing her hair & made the decision to cut it off she HAS NOT lost the will to live, her approach to cancer has been as positive & understanding as it can be & at 26 she is fighting strong & can see a certain light at the end of the tunnel! Not only do the staff at the Liverpool women's make cancer patients comfortable, they save lives! My Nan sadly didn't have the strength to get through her illness but Kayleigh absolutely does & at the end of her cancer journey & thanks to the help of the women's Kayleigh will be back to her usual loving life self & with more wisdom & will to live than she ever had before I'm sure!
Two very important people with one very important cause!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story & anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
