Story
Jen Johnstone, David Smallbone, Chris Beedie, Rachael Chapman, Dave McLeish, Steve Smith, Steve Hebbes and Matt Miles have now returned from the 56 mile, three day canoeing adventure from Reading to London, UK. Day two was the hardest - having to travel 26 miles (the equivalent of a marathon!) through torrential rain at times! You can see the photos by clicking on the links on the left hand side.
All monies raised will go directly to ‘Practical Action’ to support an electricity micro-generation project in Mozambique. Practical Action are an international development charity that uses both simple and sophisticated technology to change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. Once constructed, the hydro-electric generating station will harvest energy from the Chimedza River, supplying electricity to households, small businesses, a primary school and a clinic.
The scheme will have a massive impact upon the community; the provision of household lighting will allow children to carry out schoolwork in the evenings, increasing the effectiveness of their education. The availability of electricity will also have a massive impact upon their agricultural system by mechanising the crucial task of grain milling, vastly reducing production time. Another benefit is the ability to power a fridge in the local clinic, which will allow the storage of vaccines.
Your donation will ensure that a community who deserve the opportunity to help themselves will get it.
