Story
Corah-Beth Slaney is an incredible teenager, who has an amazing amount of determination, personality and wit. She also has the little known, life-limiting, Mitochondrial disease, which claims more lives than childhood cancer. Corah-Beth is a patient at Kings Mill Hospital, Nottingham. Her family and friends have started an appeal to find a pop-star to visit the ward and (if Corah-Beth is well enough on the day) to sing a duet with her. Corah-Beth loves singing and has recorded a few songs herself and it would make her day to be meet and sing with a star. Despite being in constant pain and having limited mobility, due to the weakness in her body and the constant involuntary jerking movements in her right arm and neck, Corah-Beth never complains and manages to make everyone around her smile, with her humour. Any silences on the ward are soon filed with Corah-Beth’s singing.
The appeal carries the hashtag #AChorus4Corah and within two days of the appeal launch, on 23rd January 2015, tweets with this hashtag had reached over 3 million people.
In addition, a Facebook page which was created on 24th January www.facebook.com/AChorus4Corah had reached 1000 ‘likes’ in just over 24hrs.
Corah-Beth's family are grateful for the support generated by the appeal and would like the donations which have been offered to go to The Lily Foundation, to help raise awareness of this disease and to support other families who are affected by it. Thank you.
