Story
First of all - yes, we are both a bit bonkers.
On Sunday 31st July 2011 we will be standing at the northern-most point of the British mainland with two bikes, two spare pairs of cycle gear, a pump, two pairs of board shorts and some flip flops. Over the next 12 days we aim to cycle 904 miles to our destination, the southern-most point of the British mainland, Land’s End. Along the way we will be taking in fields, cities and towns from the East to West coasts of Scotland, the Lake District, Welsh Borders, Bristol, and, finally, Devon and Cornwall. A map of our route is loosely set out on this page, and, as you can see, is not going to be a ride in the park!
The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages. It is a subject which has become particularly close to our hearts and minds in recent months, our older brother having suffered a right posterior circulation ischaemic stroke earlier this year. The Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly. Not only is the bike ride a personal challenge for us both, but also, we feel, a brilliant way to raise money for this fantastic charity and show support for our brother.
If you have any tips, words of encouragement, questions or pointers please drop either or us a line. We will both be massively grateful for anything you can give to the cause and we hope it will help to drive us up and down the thousands of feet we have to climb and descend along the way.
