Story

Hello,

Well we have just completed our enjoyable journey through some truely beautiful scenery with many tales to tell along the way. We completed around 215 miles in the four days, but it feels like more I can assure you!

I intend to pull together a short trip report as well as give you access to some of the pictures taken too but I'm now on holiday and wanted to quickly thank a number of people in the meatime.

1. Donations - we are staggered by the number of people who have donated both on-line and via other routes. Special mention to the guys in the Oyster Catcher in Otter Ferry, Frank and Jenny Coghill at Largiemore, Stuart who we met at Blackwaterfoot, Sandy from Back Packers in Rothesay, Nicol on the Jura Ferry, passengers on many of our 10 ferries - thank you so much for your kindness.

2. Hamilton Rugby Club - the committee guys have really helped promote the event and many of the members have given us loads of support - great job guys.

3. Millport Attendees - we had a great day on Saturday travelling round Cumbrae made all the more special with the large number of supporters - our families and friends. This was made all the more poignant as Steve was able to join in the fun too and join in the chat with old team mates. We were blessed by the weather the company was great too.

4. Wives and families of the cyclists - You guys know that this event took some special effort for us to get in condition for this challenge meaning that we often sacrificied our family time. I am sure we will make it up to you!

5.The Cycle Team - Where do I start - good friends who stepped up to the mark to help out an old pal, no hesitation - teamwork indeed. Special mention to Tweag who has clearly earned hero status for completing such a tough trip - what a man. Although we did have an excellent time the reasons for the trip were never forgotten, every opportunity was taken to raise money and I know Steve will always be grateful. What a great bunch - excellent work guys.

Thanks again to all.

Dave.

Hello,

Thanks for visiting our fund raising page in aid of MS Research.

My brother Steve was diagnosed with PPMS last year and has suffered from a dramatic reduction in mobility since then. Despite this major set back Steve’s spirits are high and his zest for life continues with the amazing support of his lovely wife Moira and two sons Euan and Fraser. Steve has learned to cope with life differently since diagnosis, each day he faces fresh challenges but characteristically he tackles these head on.

Steve led an active life running his own business, was a keen golfer, footballer and we played rugby together for many happy years for Hamilton RFC, a rather scary half-back partnership to be honest!

The Cycle Challenge

Too old and fat to run any distance a group of pals have set a cycle challenge to cover 195 miles visiting five islands on the beautiful west coast of Scotland. Our trip starts and finishes from Otter Ferry on Loch Fyne and then onto the Islands of Jura, Islay, Arran, Great Cumbrae and Bute, in four days, starting 23rd of July. We hope to have plenty of participants along the way and some may even join in for parts of the trip – how many islands can you do ?

About MS

MS is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 85,000 people in theworldhave MS. It is estimated that there are 10,500 people with MS in Scotland - more people per capita than anywhere else in the world. MS is the result of damage to myelin - a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged, this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body. Life with MS can be a challenge for anyone affected - that includes the person with MS, their family and friends.
