Arthur 'Narf' Downham, Rick's younger brother and my brother in law, passed away nearly 4 years ago after a protracted fight against bowel cancer. At only 47 he was the youngest in the family which makes his loss all the harder for the older brothers and sisters, and his many, many friends - it is a painful reminder to all about how fragile life can be. All cancer charities desperately need every penny in their battles to find a cure and in the case of bowel cancer to ensure that the screening programme is maintained or even expanded in order to catch this potential killer. Had 'Narf' received earlier screening he might still be with us - it is generally not made available until you are 60.
'Narf' was a huge sports fan, both as a participant and as an armchair follower, and we are sure that an event like the 2 ball rally with its 1200 mile route through a total of 9 countries over 4 days would have grabbed his full attention. The numerous challenges en-route including the need to negotiate the 75 hairpin bends of the Stelvio Pass and to follow in the expert tyre tracks of the great and possibly not so good around the streets of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit would have fired his enthusiasm ... and provided him with a never ending fund of anecdotes to share while propping up the bar!
Please give generously - even if you didn't know Arthur - after all that could have been you.
